Boston’s waterfront is undergoing an historic redevelopment boom. Boston’s Designated Port Areas (DPAs) are experiencing increasing pressure to be developed for commercial, recreational and residential uses. As a decades-long champion of the working port, Boston Harbor Now has been working on a comprehensive white paper that examines the current state of Boston’s working waterfront, the regulatory structure that governs Designated Port Areas, and provides a series of comparable regional and international case studies. A two-day idea exchange is scheduled in conjunction with the release of the Innovation in Boston’s Working Port report. Our goal is to achieve broader public-private consensus on the necessary steps to build a 21st century Harbor and, in doing so, create a Boston’s working port that is increasingly innovative, climate-resilient, and economically viable.
