For as long as it’s been going on, the Annual Senior Salute has never failed to be a big hit and in 2018, the Thomas and Edward Butler St. Patrick’s Senior Salute was no exception. Last weekend, hundreds of senior citizens, many of them decked out in their finest party clothes, turned out to yet another great event that was fun from start to finish. Thomas Butler Jr. and SBCA president Tom McGrath were co-emcees. Also, in the tradition the luncheon’s the Honorary Chairwomen were Cllr. Ed Flynn’s mother Cathy Flynn and Rep. Nick Collins mother Mary McCarthy Collins.
The crowd was treated to a sumptuous traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage meal fit for royalty, followed by fine desserts and beverages that topped off the meal portion of the gathering perfectly. There was live music by the Mike Reynolds Duo and singing and laughter and smiles all around. Irish Step Dancers thrilled all in attendance and their energy had everyone applauding each dance they performed.
In attendance were local elected officials including Mayor Marty Walsh, State Rep Nick Collins, City Councilor Ed Flynn, Rep. Dan Hunt and Register of Deeds Stephen Murphy. The Mayor’s Office of Elder Affairs was also well represented at the event, led by Mary Beth Kelly and her dedicated team. Local volunteers included Cheryl Joyce, Ellie Flaherty Kasper, Andrea Flaherty, Joyce Tinlin Higgins, Cheryl O’Brien, Ann Marie Adducci, Bubba Cahill and Rich Devoe.
There were many giveaways presented to the party goers, such as shamrock plants, goodie bags and gift certificates and more. This year’s Senior Salute had a tradition to uphold and that was to be 100% upbeat and festive and it certainly was. Well done to all involved in putting on such a fine banquet for so many of our most cherished citizens.
