Come out and celebrate the opening of our 16th season of the South Boston Farmers Market, 446 West Broadway (in front of the municipal parking lot), now on Monday, June 11th, 2018,
12-6pm. South Boston.
The South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation (SBNDC), sponsor of the South Boston Farmers Market, will hold their Opening Day Celebration now on June 11th, after postponing the originally scheduled opening day on June 4th due to bad weather. Get some early spring vegetables, such as asparagus, lettuce, herbs as well as potted flowers; hothouse zucchini and tomatoes from our returning Massachusetts based Freitas’ & Wenger’s Farms.
Wenger’s will also carry their (in-) famous baked goods such as cookies and pies, bread, local jams, honey, flowers and hand-crafted soaps. Our special theme for opening day is “Health and Wellness” and a variety of vendors and activities, such as the South Boston Community Health Center with blood pressure readings and giveaways, a WIC info table, a mini dance fitness class, ‘Shredded’ (a new restaurant on West Broadway) with coupons, dental education by WB Family Dental, another short fitness class led by Regan’s Motivated Fitness will be present and offered. The Friends of the Library will be selling health and wellness related books and the ‘Juice Box’ will have some smoothie samples on hand, as well.
No doubt, the highlight of the day will be the special appearance of the “Southie Farmer’s Market Tomato”! Snap a pic of this shy creature while you can. Additionally, the SBNDC will give away $2 coupons to its market shoppers, valid for fresh and healthy market products (as long as supplies last). Come to the market manager’s tent to get the coupon, including our market loyalty card!
Of course, there cannot be an opening day without live music from 12-3:00 pm. The market season begins on Opening Day on June 4th and will go through October 29th and will be held every Monday from 12-6pm at 446 Broadway, on the sidewalk in front of the municipal parking lot. The South Boston Farmers Market accepts EBT/SNAP, WIC, and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons, and has the Healthy Incentive SNAP match program (HIP) available for EBT/SNAP users.
