On Saturday, September 22nd, the Gate of Heaven C.Y.O.’s 31st Annual Fundraiser will be held in the Gate of Heaven Lower Church Hall, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with cocktails and hors’douvres. During the event the annual Rev. Paul V. Donovan, Rev. A. Paul White and Jack McDonough Awards will be presented.
The Rev. A. Paul White Award is presented annually to a woman in our community whose dedication and commitment has had a positive impact on the youth and families of the Gate of Heaven Parish, the C.Y.O. and the South Boston Community. This year’s recipient is Mary Maiullari. As a lifelong parishioner Mary has always been available to help out with any parish function from the Bazaar, Coffee & Conversation, school events and fundraisers. Congratulations to Mary and her family on receiving the Annual Rev. A. Paul White Award.
The Jack McDonough Award is presented annually to the outstanding male member of our community who exemplifies Christianity in today’s society and the goals of the Gate of Heaven C.Y.O. and its Alumni Association. This year’s recipient is Ron “Cheech” Maciejewski. Cheech has been in charge of the McDonough Gym since the Gavin Foundation took over. He has been an essential element to the operation of the Gatey CYO basketball programs and commandant to the youth of the community that use the facility. We thank Cheech for all the great things he does for his community and the youth of South Boston and beyond.
The Rev. Paul V. Donovan Award for the parish Outstanding Catholic Youth is presented annually to a person who exemplifies the best of what it means to live out the Catholic faith in today’s society. The criteria used in selecting the recipient are based on participation in parish C.Y.O. activities, on church attendance, and on personal characteristics which evidence a commitment to the Christian faith. This award is presented as an expression of our pride in the youth of our community. Due to scheduling conflicts we are behind one year in presenting these annual awards, so to catch up we will be giving out two female and two male awards for the years 2017 & 2018.
The 2017 Outstanding Catholic Youth Female Award will be presented to Jackie Czar.
Jackie is a freshman at Framingham State and is the daughter of William & Lisa Czar of Brewster Street.
The 2018 Outstanding Catholic Youth Female Award will be presented to Jacqueline Beggan. Jacquelyn is a senior at Cathedral High School in Boston and is the daughter Jay & Mary Beggan of East Eighth Street.
The 2017 Outstanding Catholic Youth Male Award will be presented to Harry Cully. Harry is a senior and attends Boston Collegiate Charter School and is the son of Kevin & Keli Cully of East Fifth Street.
The 2018 Outstanding Catholic Youth Male Award will be presented to Joseph Maiullari. Joey is a senior and attends Boston Collegiate Charter School and is the son of Paul and Mary Maiullari of East Broadway.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients and we wish them all the best of luck now and in all their future endeavors.
