Though Halloween is celebrated by many people of all ages, it’s especially a time the kids look forward to. Great care goes into that big decision as to which costume to choose, whether it’s of the store bought or homemade variety. South Bostonians are fortunate that we live in a town that encourages the festive atmosphere of the season while making sure priority is given to ensuring the safety of local children. It’s nice and very much appreciated that we have organizations like the South Boston Chamber of Commerce and participating businesses and the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation working together to put on what has become that wonderful tradition known as ‘Trick or Treat on Broadway’(Halloween Night, October 31st 4-6pm). Here, the kids, usually accompanied by adult family members and neighbors get to Trick or Treat along Southie’s main shopping area in safety and are the beneficiaries of the generosity of our local merchants who provide those much sought after sugary treats.
And who can forget the Castle Island Association’s ‘Children’s Magical Halloween Castle’ at Fort Independence (Saturday and Sunday, October 27th, 28th from Noon to 4pm)? It’s become an attraction not to be missed each year for thousands. This is an event that is unique to South Boston and is truly something to experience. And here too, fun is the theme and safety is the priority. Parents can take comfort knowing that their children can be part of great Halloween fun in an environment that is safe and secure because dedicated community minded adults have made it their goal to make it so. And that should make all of us happy and proud.
