Tuesday’s election will be a closely watched and likely quite active election, even though many candidates, who won their Democratic primaries in the Boston area are essentially unopposed.
In other parts of the Commonwealth, and in the case of the District Attorney race in Suffolk County, where there is an unenrolled candidate, Michael Maloney, challenging the Democratic nominee, Rachel Rollins, there are hot contests for legislative seats, county seats, as well as the US Senate race between Senator Elizabeth Warren and Republican Geoff Diehl.
Constitutional offices also are contested. Governor Charlie Baker is opposed by Democratic nominee Jay Gonzalez. Secretary of State Bill Galvin is challenged by Anthony Amore. Auditor Suzanne Bump is challenged by Dan Fishman and Attorney General Maura Healy is challenged by James McMahon.
Locally, Congressman Stephen Lynch and Senator Nick Collins head into Tuesday unopposed. Democratic nominee for State Representative David Biele is poised to succeed Nick Collins, running unopposed in the general election.
