December Highlights
Happy New Year to all! – Thank you to State Street and all of our partners at Junior Achievement who came to teach our students on Friday December 14. JA is a volunteer-delivered, kindergarten-12th grade program that fosters work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and uses experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential. Junior Achievement (JA) of Northern New England appreciates their continued partnership with State Street and South Boston Catholic Academy to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA invests in youth today to empower them to strengthen our communities tomorrow. Through hands-on learning experiences delivered by State Street volunteers they are exposing students to different career paths and businesses, money management and how to start a business. Students are also taught critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills that they’ll carry with them to middle and high school and beyond. JA and State Street have been bringing this program to South Boston Catholic Academy for 11 consecutive years. They also had a few volunteers from Salesforce in the classroom, two of whom currently reside South Boston, and were excited make an impact in their community.
The students at South Boston Catholic Academy enjoyed a week of Christmas festivities ahead of the Christmas vacation. Students in the preschool dressed in pajamas and watched The Polar Express. The Student Council held their Annual Christmas Party for all of the students. This was a fundraiser in honor of the “Bed for Every Child” initiative by the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. The students also had a chance to wear red for the day.
On Friday, December 21, 2018, we all gathered in the gym to light the 4th and final candle on our Advent Wreath as Father Olson, Our Parochial Vicar, said a special Advent prayer. The members of the 6th Grade class put together a Nativity Play, as well as, recited ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and before we left to start our Christmas vacation with our families and friends, Father Casey, Our Pastor and Father Olson lead the students, faculty and staff in a Christmas Sing A Long that ended with all of us singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” followed by a Christmas Blessing given by Father Casey. As we said good bye to 2018, we say welcome to 2019 and to the continuation of another wonderful school year at South Boston Catholic Academy. A Blessed and Happy New Year to all!
