Councilor Flynn Releases Annual Report

Focused on Basic City & Constituent Service

District 2 Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn released an annual report to update constituents on priorities his office focused on during his first year at the Council. Flynn called attention to his work on housing and development issues, public safety, mental & behavioral health, social & economic justice for working families, constituent service for residents, and securing funding in the city budget. Moreover, he conveyed that it has been a top priority to bring city services to each of our neighborhoods, hold monthly office hours in the district, and meeting regularly with neighborhood associations.

Along with marrying my wife, Kristen, the birth of my children, Caroline and Stephen, and serving in the United States Navy for nearly 25 years – serving as your City Councilor is truly one of the great honors of my life. I will continue to work hard on your behalf in the year ahead.”

Housing & Development

         Passed tax repayment ordinance on housing stability for our low-income seniors

         Strongly advocated and voted in favor of Airbnb regulations

         Chaired hearing on Vacant Property and Shell Corporations

         Called for hearing on IPOD & neighborhood-wide zoning

         Announced opposition to 776 Summer St (Edison Project)

         Opposed projects unfavorable to abutters and neighborhood associations

         Brought Inspectional Services to meet with concerned neighbors

         Relayed community concerns at Frontage Road hearing

Public Safety

         Held Community Meeting at Farragut Road & Broadway

         Recommended 12 Point Safe Streets Plan to Transportation Dept.

         Held hearing on 20 MPH speed limit, 20 mph zones and traffic-calming

         Crosswalk repairs & Boston Police public safety walks in Chinatown, Leather District throughout District 2

         Walk-Audit with Walk Boston and Livable Streets

         Held hearing on gas infrastructure and National Grid

         Held hearing on Stray Voltage

         Held hearing on South Boston Waterfront & Seaport Strategic Plan & Vision Zero

         Called for Domestic Violence Hearing

         Advocated for Landwave Sculpture removal in the South End

Mental & Behavioral Health

         Supported proposal to re-open Long Island Treatment Facility

         Regularly attended Healthy Andrew Square Task Force & South End Working   Group on Addiction

         Called for hearing on mental, behavioral health & sexual exploitation

Social & Economic Justice

         Passed resolution in support of United Steelworkers

         Passed resolution in support of Unite Here Local 26

         Called for hearing on disability access and equity in the City of Boston
