April School Vacation was a blast here at the Tynan Community Center this past week. On Tuesday we held our 4th annual Wiffleball tournament and cookout! Wiffleball is a staple in Southie for generations, we had very good success doing just this for the first 15 years of the Pal Gym/Walsh Center and the tradition continues as 28 pre/teens competed for this year’s championship. It was an all-day affair with hours and hours of wiffleball being played, Athletic Director; Greg Lally deserves a well done as he ran a well-organized tournament. There was plenty of food to go around thanks to the Tynan Council and its PRESIDENT, Edward M. McGuire. The Council provided the food and beverages as well as presenting the winners with $25.00-dollar visa gift cards. This year’s winners were Anderson Wisniewski, Alex Fucile and Mimi Markos. I would also like to thank my staff for doing a great job feeding the participants, spectators, parents and neighbors. Well-done to, Program Supervisor: Kathy Davis, Youth Worker: Katie O’Connell, Athletic Director: Greg Lally , Building Manager: John Higgins and our newest staff member(staff assistant): Carol Curran. We also appreciated a visit of support from the new Administrative Coordinator of the Curley community center, Andrea Flaherty. We wish Andrea well with her endeavors at the (L St.) Curley. On Wednesday we had a planned visit from the Tierney learning center in South Boston. Allison Baker who does a great job at the Tierney transported about 30 youngsters to the BCYF Tynan for a flag football tournament and cookout. It was a great day as the weather turned out to be very nice and sunny. The Tierney and Tynan kids all played well as the game stayed close throughout. It was lots of fun watching their reactions when they scored touchdowns. When the game was over once again the Tynan Council provided plenty of hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, chips, water’s and cupcakes! We thank the Tierney staff and kids for a wonderful day! See photo’s
