In Boston, being a member of the Boston Police Department is more than a job, it means being part of the community. Recognizing this relationship between police and residents, the Boston Police Foundation works to support some of the department’s most successful initiatives such as Officer Wellness and Safety, New Technology, New Equipment and Community Policing. The Foundation’s mission is to “Back Up Boston’s Finest.” This, too, is a community effort. Police officers make a difference every day by going beyond what is required to serve their community and ensure public safety.
Individuals who help support these initiatives are also making a difference in the lives of Boston residents. This year, the Boston Police Foundation will honor New England Council President Jim Brett as its Civilian Honoree for the organization’s fifth annual gala. In addition to this special award, the Foundation honors members of the Boston Police Department who have gone above and beyond the call of duty throughout the year.
“I am honored to receive this recognition,” said Brett. “The Boston Police are always there when you need them. They put their lives on the line every day to make sure we are safe. I cannot say enough about the work they do. Particularly in Dorchester, I have seen the positive impact of programs such as Community Policing.”
Brett is being recognized for many years of support to the foundation and his dedication to helping “Back Up Boston’s Finest.” As president of The New England Council, Brett works to forge partnerships and collaborations among business leaders to foster economic development and improve the quality of life in the region. The award will be presented at the fifth annual gala which is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2019 at the Boston Park Plaza. Past civilian honorees have included Robert Kraft, Linda Henry and David Ortiz.
