The summer heat often brings an uptick in crime, no matter which city you reside in. Boston is fortunate that the crime rate here is so much lower than in many other cities around the nation. But police still have their hands full and definitely earn their pay, especially in the warm summer months.
Here is the unofficial report by the Boston Police regarding the number and certain types of crimes reported during the 72-hour period last weekend from Friday, July 6th, 10am until Monday, July 9th, 10am.
Homicides – 1, non-fatal shootings – 2, non-fatal stabbings – 5.
Street Robberies – 6, Commercial Robberies – 2. Bank Robberies – 0, Other Robberies – 1
Vehicle Theft – 9 (Vehicle Recoveries – 7), Vehicle Break-ins – 11
Residential Break-ins – 20, Commercial Break-ins – 4
These are just some of the crimes Boston Police have had to deal with during last weekend. They do an excellent job by any standard and, by their professionalism, keep the crime rate to a minimum in the city, while so many other municipalities have a difficult time keeping things under control.
But, as has been stated on these pages many times before, they need the help of the public. As always, if you see something suspicious or out of the ordinary that looks like it could be a crime in progress or something in the planning stages, use your phone and call 911. The police encourage this, and it very often helps their response time. The faster the police become alerted to a situation, the more quickly they can react, and it could help save a life.
