David Biele, a lifelong South Boston resident and local attorney officially kicked off his campaign for State Representative in front of a crowd of over 100 supporters at The Broadway restaurant in South Boston last Thursday. Biele, a leader in many South Boston community-based organizations, has earned significant campaign endorsements in recent weeks, including Ironworkers Local 7, IBEW Local 2222, and Laborers Local 223.
Before a capacity room of South Boston and Dorchester residents, Biele talked about his background and discussed his vision for the community. He said, “Growing up in South Boston and having lived my entire life here, I benefited from having a supportive family, loyal friends, and influential coaches and mentors. I know how critical an influence our community had on my upbringing, and I want to make sure that every person in this district has access to the same kinds of opportunity. That’s why I’m running for State Representative.”
Biele continued, “As your State Representative, I will make the issues of transportation, parking, development and the rising cost of housing, public safety, education and programming for our youth, and battling the scourge of substance abuse and opioid addiction my top priorities. Most importantly, I will always be a strong voice for our community.”
South Boston resident and President of the Gavin Foundation John McGahan was in attendance and supported Biele’s goals for the community. He said, “David has lived here his entire life. He was here fighting for us on issues like parking, development, and recovery when he worked for then-Representative Nick Collins, and he has what it takes to stand up for everyday residents.”
These sentiments were echoed by William Higgins who said, “David Biele has been a leader in South Boston through his work with local non-profits and charities, and I know that he will take that dedication to support our neighborhood as State Representative. We need someone who understands our community and will fight for us.”
Mary Joyce Morris, a resident of Fort Point, is supporting Biele because he knows how to get things done. She said, “David’s experience is top-notch. I know that he’s the right candidate to support our elderly and be there for our veterans.”
Biele has been deeply engaged with local community-based programs. He serves as a board member of the South Boston Boys & Girls Club and has spent many years mentoring local youth through the TEAM Mentoring Program at the Labouré Center. He is also actively involved with Harry McDonough Sailing Center and the South Boston Special Kids and Young Adults.
Biele was a longtime staffer to Nick Collins in his State Representative Office, working on policy, legislation, and constituent services. He is a graduate of Boston Latin School, Boston College, and Boston College Law School.
