South Boston has always been a place where volunteerism is the norm among so many of our residents. Whether coaching youth sports teams, tutoring those who need that extra boost to put someone over the top to pass that important test, helping out at a senior center or organizing a bake sale at one of our local churches, South Bostonians are famous for showing up, rolling up their sleeves and going to work to help so many worthy causes.
In our neighborhood, volunteers come in all ages and the recent drive to collect needed school supplies for children, who may not be able to get what they need to be properly prepared for the challenging year ahead confirmed once again that the biggest hearts sometimes come in the smallest packages. For the 2nd year in a row, young Ronan Manning with his sister Keira Manning organized the school supply drive and along with an enthusiastic team of helpers, made it a big success.
Ronan, Keira and all those involved in this wonderful effort can be proud of themselves for their thoughtfulness and concern on behalf of others. They worked long and hard to make sure that kids would have what was needed to succeed in this upcoming school year. They also need to know that not only have they done a great job, but they have made their community proud of them once again.
