The well-worn saying “If you can’t be bothered to vote no one wants to hear you complain” always rings true. As Americans, we have the God given right, as well as the mechanism in place to vote against what we don’t like and just as importantly, to vote FOR what we do like or would like to see come to pass.
Next Tuesday, September 4th, is primary day in Boston. The city makes it easy for us by keeping polling locations open from 7am until 8pm. If you’re disabled and just can’t get out or need to be out of town you can even vote by absentee ballot. But no matter how you choose to vote, vote you should. It’s the civic duty of all of us, if we want to have a say in how our government works, which should be working in the best interest of everyone.
South Boston has always been famous (our detractors might even call it notorious) for going to the polls in massive numbers. This will hopefully be a habit that endures forever. There really is no reason or excuse not to continue that practice and it should apply to long time residents, as well as newcomers. So please, make a note to get to the polls next Tuesday. It takes just a few minutes.
