Once again, South Boston’s own, Bob Fowkes and his Curragh’s Fancy trio regaled the wonderful crowd as families and South Boston neighbors of all ages enjoyed Irish ditties and ballads with the weather of Boston cooperating, with Dorchester Bay and the Boston Harbor Islands in the background and Aer Lingus in the sky. The event is brought to the neighborhood by Cory Dinopoulos, on behalf of the City Point Neighborhood Association and funding from Save The Harbor, Save The Bay.
150 or more were on hand to sing, dance and spend time with friends, like they did over the years. The bandstand is so iconic as to be the site of many a wedding photo or even an engagement moment. Overheard were statements like, “how can you beat this?” … “an oasis in the heart of the city” … “a beach in my backyard, for crying out loud” …” I hope we do more of these even after Labor Day.” And South Boston Today couldn’t agree more.
