Thomas E. McGrath, President of the South Boston Citizens Association is pleased to announce that the 2017 Presidents Award will be presented to, Maura Doyle, Clerk of the Supreme Court, for her continuous support to the president and the entire SBCA Organization at the SBCA’s 137th Annual Banquet on Friday, March 17th at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
Tom McGrath, President of the SBCA said, “Her education, management and leadership skills are a blue print for others to follow. It is an honor for the Association to recognize Rita for her outstanding service to the Public for over 40 years.”
In 1996, the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court announced their unanimous decision to appoint Maura S. Doyle as Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court, the first woman to hold this position since its inception in 1693 and , and she became the first woman to be elected to Suffolk county-wide office.
Mrs. Doyle received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, cum laude, from Northeastern University in 1977 and a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University School of Law in 1981. She has been a member of the bar since 1981. Before joining the SJC’s Clerk’s office in 1992 as an Assistant Clerk, she was a civil litigator in the state and federal courts for 11 years and served as an adjunct professor at Suffolk University Law School.
Mrs. Doyle was inducted into the YWCA’s Boston Academy of Women Achievers, awarded the McDermott Award for her contribution by Suffolk University Law School’s Student Bar Association, the Alumni Achievement Award at Pope John XXIII High School’s Commencement ceremony and later its Pinnacle Award. The Massachusetts Bar Association bestowed its Public Service Award and the Middlesex County Bar Association bestowed its President’s Award.
