Ten teams to participate in BAA 5k blindfolded to support braille literacy
National Braille Press (NBP) announced today the 10 participants for the 2018 BAA 5k Blindfold Challenge on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The Blindfold Challenge is a unique opportunity to run a 5k blindfolded with the help of a sighted guide to show solidarity with individuals who are visually impaired. Participants of the Blindfold Challenge commit to raising much needed funds for braille literacy that will support the production of children’s braille books.
“During the Blindfold Challenge, athletes take the challenge to demonstrate that with the right supports and training, individuals who are blind can accomplish great things,” said Brian MacDonald, President of National Braille Press.
The 2018 Blindfold Challenge Team includes Cliff Watkin and Ege Ercan. Cliff Watkin, of South Boston, is a former NBP Trustee and current member of the corporation and has participated in the Blindfold Challenge for the past 10 years beginning with his son as his guide at just ten years old. While his is now away at college Ege Ercan will serve as his guide.
