Who’s the most famous chef for miles around? Who has made dozens of trips to Italy to actually improve his cooking skills, if that’s even possible? And when you mention fine Italian cuisine, whose name immediately comes to mind? These are all easy questions with the same answer, Papa George Locascio, of course.
Last Thursday, Papa George more than satisfied the appetites of the hungry crowd at Touchie’s Shamrock Pub and Grill at the corner of H and East Eighth Streets in South Boston. As he has done in the past, the master himself was happy to put out a spread of some of the finest Italian dishes that could be found this side of Sicily. The Evening was advertised as ‘Pasta Night at the Shamrock with Papa George and his World Famous Special Sauce’. And that it was, but it was so much more.
On hand were some of Papa’s specialties such as the tantalizing Arancini, his delicious Gnocchi, the scrumptious Penne Pasta and of course his famous meatballs all nestled in his world-renowned sauce. And the crowd dug right in and savored every morsel.
What amazed the patrons at the Shamrock on this wonderful evening is that Papa George creates all his magnificent dishes from scratch. And of course, he used only the freshest and finest ingredients. Only the best for the patrons of the Shamrock created by the best chef in South Boston.
This was the perfect evening. The mood was relaxed, the drinks flowed steadily from Touchie’s excellent and wide bar selections and the enthusiastic crowd was the finishing touch, as all the diners were enjoying each other’s company in a festive atmosphere.
As was stated above, Papa George Locascio travels to Italy several times each year to cook with and learn from the best in a country famous for its fine food. But one of the things he enjoys doing the most is coming home to prepare sumptuous meals for his South Boston family members and friends. He gives cooking classes at the South Boston Neighborhood House, is in high demand to cook at some of the best neighborhood parties and delights in sharing his great food when hanging out with his buddies around town and beyond. It’s clear that he loves what he does, and that love is certainly and always reflected in the wonderful meals that he prepares and serves to his appreciative fans. And so, it was at the Shamrock on this night to remember.
Again, the phrase that always comes to mind when partaking in meals prepared by Papa George is ‘Bon Appetit’.
