South Boston Citizens’ Association president Tom McGrath has announced the Association’s 2017 recipient of the James M. “Jimmy” Kelly/Margaret “Peggy” Flaherty Shamrock Award for Community Service.
The 2017 Shamrock Award will be presented to Patty Cloherty, for her selfless efforts in aiding those in need, and pitching in at the drop of a hat, for any benefit or worthy cause in and around the town. Patty is a resident of South Boston, along with her husband Brian and children Brian and Lauren reside on Columbia Rd. Patty is someone that understands the important part society can play in helping people. Patty and her husband Brian, and their family, are always there for those in need and are involved in so many organizations and charities in South Boston. One of her favorites is the Laboure Center.
Patty has been a faithful and tireless volunteer at the Laboure Center for over twenty-seven years. She has chaired several committees for the Christmas House Tour that raises funds to support their organization. Patty is a major part of the “Family” at the Laboure Center and treats everyone with respect and dignity.
Additionally, Patty remains involved at St. Brigid School and their many activities. She also was instrumental, along with many other South Boston mothers, in helping helping with a Home for Sydni and the” Help get Wheels for Sydni” campaign. Through the years, the Cloherty family has given back so much to the people of South Boston and we are proud that Patty remains an important and well respected member of the South Boston Community. “She goes above and beyond in her work in the Community and all other worthy causes in this town. Patty is all about South Boston and its survival as a community, and her positive attitude and actions reflect her commitment and dedication to this great neighborhood.” McGrath said.
The award will be presented at the Association’s 137th Annual Evacuation Day Banquet, to be held on Friday evening, March 17th, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Curragh’s Fancy will provide the entertainment, along with a host of special dignitaries. McGrath cautioned that tickets are sure to be purchased at a good pace, with South Boston’s most valued community leaders receiving awards, he urges those that are planning to attend to act fast.
