State Representative Nick Collins plans to host a Park Serve day on Saturday April 29th at Farragut Park from 9am to 12pm. The annual event is sponsored in partnership with the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
Many groups have already signed up to participate, including South Boston Little League, South Boston Pop Warner, South Boston Girls’ Softball, and South Boston Youth Hockey. Statewide there will be more than 30 similar park cleanups, with volunteers from all over the Commonwealth participating.
“It’s great that the kids in the program learn that these parks are theirs. Learning to take ownership of their community and help maintain the neighborhood is an important part of their growth” said Danny Ferrara, President of South Boston Pop Warner.
“This day is a great opportunity to get outside and give back to the community” said State Representative Nick Collins “I learned about community service at a young age and hope that these kids get the chance to experience the rewarding aspects of community service by investing in their local parks right here in South Boston.”
Volunteers will meet at the Murphy rink at 9am to start the clean up and get the Spring season off on the right foot.
