Upcoming St. Patrick’s Day/Evacuation Day Events
It’s still only early February, but already the impressive St. Patrick’s Day/Evacuation Day schedule of events are being carefully planned. Below are two festive activities, sponsored by the South Boston Allied War veteran’s Council (SBAWVC) that have already been announced by Commander Dave Falvey.
Next Wednesday, February 13th, from 7-9pm at the District Hall at South Boston Seaport will be the season kickoff. This represents the beginning of the partnership with the Government of Ireland and Boston College’s Irish Institute. Mike Cronin, Author and Academic Director of Boston College Ireland, will speak about the history of St. Patrick’s Day and its celebration in the US and its impact on US/Irish relations. There’ll be free hors d’oeuvres, courtesy of a generous sponsor and also a cash bar. This event is free and open to the public.
Saturday, March 2nd, from 5-8pm at the Boston Teacher’s Union Hall in Dorchester, the big Chief Marshal’s Banquet will be held to honor this year’s Chief Marshal John Beatty (Lt. Colonel, United States Army (RET) and West Point Class of 1992). SBAWVC is very excited that John Beatty is this year’s Chief Marshal and said that he is doing a terrific job at planning this year’s banquet. These are just 2 of the exciting events lined up by the SBAWVC. Watch for more announcements to come including of course, the big St. Patrick’s Day/Evacuation Day Parade on March 17th which is also sponsored by SBAWVC.
