It’s nice to be able to say that, in South Boston, we live in a community that appreciates and shows gratitude to neighbors, who devote time, effort and energy to helping others and making the town a nice place to live. Last Saturday, Southie honored yet another good neighbor; a genuine hero for all his dedication and commitment to his fellow residents. Hundreds turned out in support and to say Thank You to Harry Uhlman as the Bandstand at Marine Park was named in his honor. It was a festive and happy event where people of every age group got to congratulate a great guy, a Samaritan by any standard, for all the wonderful volunteer work he has done over so many years and continues to do today.
Harry Uhlman epitomizes a breed of caring citizens, who give of themselves. South Boston is fortunate that we have had, and continue to have, despite all the changes in the community taking place, so many people living here, who volunteer their time to make the lives of others better. Whether they are coaching youth sports, volunteering at senior citizen centers, tutoring students, who need that extra assist to realize their goals or participating in the cleanups of our parks, ball fields and beaches and so much more.
It’s important that they know that what they do is appreciated and valued. Thank you again Harry Uhlman. You deserved every bit of the praise showered upon you last weekend and thanks also to all the other great men and women of South Boston for their efforts on behalf of the community. God Bless every one of you.
