Harry Cully of South Boston, a junior at Boston Collegiate Charter School (BCCS) just completed a two-week internship at South Boston’s Tynan Community Center. He is among 74 high school juniors that tackled jobs across a range of organizations and industries this month as part of BCCS’ mandatory Junior Internship Program. Running January 16 through 26, the internships are designed to teach BCCS juniors real-world workplace skills with the goal of coming away with a better understanding of possible career choices and college majors.
For BCCS students, 70 percent of whom will be the first in their families to attend college, the Junior Internship is an invaluable piece of the high school puzzle – and part of the reason that, since its first graduating class in 2004, 100 percent of BCCS students have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities. The BCCS Junior Internship is a vital component of the school’s mission to prepare each student for success in college and beyond.
