It is with heavy heart that the South Boston and Dorchester communities say good bye to long time newspaper publisher Steve Allen. Steve, who owned, published and ran the everyday operations of Boston Photo News, passed away last Monday morning.
Steve Allen, a devoted husband to his wife Susan, a great father to his 5 children and a doting grandfather to his young grand children was a familiar figure wherever and whenever there was news happening in Boston’s neighborhoods; especially in South Boston and Dorchester. He had a special place in his heart for the people who resided in these 2 close knit communities and enjoyed interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds. Whether it was a ribbon cutting, a charity fundraiser for a good cause, a youth sports tournament or a senior citizen event, Steve Allen could be counted on to show up with his camera to make sure all the action was captured in memorable photos.
Steve Allen was on a first name basis with mayors and governors and elected officials on every level. His advice was often sought by decision makers all around Boston and beyond. This was a man who always offered greeting with a smile and a sincere handshake. He was committed and dedicated to doing an excellent job at every occasion. He was a true professional and his outstanding photography left no doubt of his ability.
Steve Allen will be missed by his many friends. Of this there will be no doubt. Future newsworthy events without his presence won’t be the same but most believe he will in fact be there in spirit; camera in hand and with his famous smile. Rest in Peace Steve Allen and may God Bless and keep you close.
