The Thomas J. Fitzgerald VFW Post 561 honored Veterans with their annual March to Medal of Honor Park and Saint Brigid Church for services followed by a luncheon in Cushing Hall.
Dignitaries included Mayor Marty Walsh, Senator Nick Collins, Past Post Commander and City Councilor Ed Flynn, Clerk Michael Donovan and Representative-Elect David Biele, City of Boston Veterans Affairs Commissioner Gisele Sterling and colleague, Commissioner of Transportation Cheryl Fiandaca.
The solemn services were followed by a hearty luncheon attended by many residents, including Brian Mahoney Jr. and Kelly Mahoney, the son and widow of Veteran and community leader and past Fitzgerald Post Commander, the late Brian Mahoney, City of Boston Neighborhood Liaison John Allison and his parents, Bob and Phyllis, Ellen McDonough and new resident 10-month-old Justine Liff Collins. Local veteran posts and many South Boston veterans were on hand to pay their respects and thank the annual commitment of the Fitzgerald Post.
