There’s a photo going viral across the internet this week. It’s actually the portrait of United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. The words at the bottom in bold print read ‘HANG IN THERE, BROTHER. THEY PULLED THIS SAME CRAP ON ME, TOO’. This of course in reference to what’s going on with the confirmation battle for Brett Kavanagh.
Yes, they did.
For those of us old enough to remember, it was just as sleazy then as it is now. Liberal Senators went on the attack, using unsubstantiated claims, accusations and innuendo in their attempt to ruin Justice Thomas. Even though Thomas is an African American, the libs dropped their pretense of tolerance and went after him anyway, because it wasn’t that they thought the man was unqualified, they knew he certainly was and has proven so many times over. And it wasn’t because they actually believed the unproven accusations they were hurling at him. It was because he did not and would not tow their liberal line. He refused to be held captive on the progressive plantation. So, because he would not bend to their demands as to how he must rule in future cases, they did all they could to destroy him. They failed, and America is better because they failed.
Move ahead decades later and the same playbook is being used by some of the same people to destroy Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The unproven accusations, the sneaky tricks, the personal attacks are being made on not only him but against his family too, along with the threats and harassment. No lie is too outrageous; no degree of slander is out of bounds. They don’t care, they must stop another Conservative from getting on the bench and they’ll use any weapon they have to.
I’d be willing to bet that most of the people who oppose Kavanaugh don’t believe his accusers are even telling the truth. Oh, they SAY they believe the stories, but the way this all played out with the last-minute accusations and witnesses suddenly appearing from nowhere you’d have to have the IQ of a gold fish not to know this is all politically motivated, especially since these same tactics have been used before by some of the same people. No, I don’t believe for a minute that the majority of Kavanaugh’s opposition believe the guy did what he’s being accused of. They believe he’s innocent, but they don’t care. He must be stopped and if they ruin the guy’s life and the lives of his family members including his young daughters it’s fine with them.
In our country, as Americans know, the law states that a person is innocent unless and until he or she is proven guilty. But if you watch the circus taking place in DC and in the news media, you can see that concept has gone out the window as far as the leadership in the Democrat party is concerned.
It’s incredible that the likes of Chuck Schumer, Patrick Leahy, Diane Feinstein, Cory Booker and Richard Blumenthal are sitting in judgment of a decent man like Brett Kavanaugh. None are pillars of virtue and all of them have been partisan hacks, since they entered politics.
But it’s not much different than when they tried the same thing on Clarence Thomas. Back then it was, of all people, Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden questioning the character of a good man. And Justice Thomas called them out on it and named it for what it was then – nothing but a ‘high tech lynching’, and that’s just what it is today. For the country’s sake, let’s hope they don’t get away with it this time either. At this writing, I had no way of knowing if Kavanaugh would be confirmed or not. If he does get his rightful place on the bench, the country will be better for it. If he loses the bid, the good guys will just have to work that much harder to get the next pick confirmed. There can be no giving in or backing down.
