My sequel Hope and Despair, The Southie Pact Part Two continues to show the damage and untimely death resulting from drug addiction. The book also illustrates the grief and sadness which loved one’s experience when they are left behind with memories of what was; and thoughts of what should have been.
In the sequel, Doctor Katie Walsh returns to South Boston and resumes old friendships. Hoping to start anew her world is turned upside down by events beyond her control. Searching for answers, her personal beliefs are shaken to the depths of despair and she’s consumed by the ageless quest for retribution. Meanwhile, Mrs. Modica and Jack “The Junk Man” Jenkins battle their own demons. Facing doubt and despair, they, along with Doctor Walsh, hope to resolve their personal dilemmas before all their lives are lost in darkness and regret.
Thousands and thousands of American are dying from drug overdoses each year. From 1999 through 2017, 702,000 Americans died from drug overdoses. In 2016, 64,070 died (116 Americans per day), in 2017, 72,237 died, in 2018, 67,367 died, and in 2019, over 70,000 died. And this epidemic is not going away.
This sequel (including The Southie Pact) are works of fiction and were written to raise awareness of the drug epidemic.
