Skate for the 22 Tournament at Murphy Rink
What a tournament and what a way to spend a Saturday. Last weekend, the Murphy Rink was packed with spectators and supporters for the ‘Skate for the 22 Bean Pot’ Ice Hockey Tournament. This great event was organized to raise money for the ‘Tim ‘Doc’ Cook’ Scholarship Fund and to continue to raise awareness for the condition of PTSD that afflicts so many of our nation’s veterans.
The competition was fast, furious and oh so much fun and fun was, in fact, the theme of the day. The hockey talent on display was impressive, as the teams battled for a good cause. And prior to the first puck being dropped, a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem was superbly sung by Leanne Burke that had the huge crowd stand in respectful silence, until the last note.
Joe Cook, father of the late Tim ‘Doc’ Cook who was a hero to so many of his fellow service members he served with, stated that he was overwhelmed not only by the size of the turnout for the event, but also by the level of support and the spirit for this fantastic event. By any standard, this day was an enormous success and all for a great cause.
