USS Cole Port of Call in Boston

The South Boston Allied War Veterans Council (SBAWVC) is honored to announce that the USS Cole, a US Navy destroyer, will be visiting Boston during St. Patrick’s Day weekend for a port call. Their arrival is anticipated on Thursday, March 15th at 2:00 PM at Black Falcon Pier in South Boston. We invite all of our family and friends to join us at this time for the arrival of the USS Cole into Boston Harbor. We ask that those attending bring with them a small American flag to ensure our servicemembers receive a special welcome.

The USS Cole serves as an enduring symbol of the struggle and sacrifices made by our armed forces in the war against terrorism. On October 12, 2000, during a brief refueling stop in the harbor of Aden, Yemen, the USS Cole was attacked by a small boat laden with explosives, resulting in the deaths of 17 members of the ship’s crew, with 39 others wounded. This terrorist attack also caused serious damage to the ship, which USS Cole crew members heroically fought to save. ‘Determined Warrior’ is the official motto of the USS Cole, which continues to serve a vital role in protecting our country thanks to the efforts of those who helped save the ship, as well as those who serve on the USS Cole today.

SBAWVC is proud to organize the St. Patrick’s Day / Evacuation Day Parade, an event intended to celebrate, not just the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, but also Evacuation Day and to honor the service of our armed forces. With that in mind, the SBAWVC places a strong emphasis on facilitating such occasions and we are proud to have the USS Cole in Boston to help celebrate a special weekend with all of us.

We hope to see you on March 15th.
