The tradition continues. In what could have been the biggest crowd for this event to date, there was a huge turnout for the 10th Annual Southie Family Fun Day, sponsored by the South Boston MOMS’ Club. Held at Marine Park with picture perfect weather shining down on the enthusiastic gathering made up of babies, all the way up to adults, fun certainly was the theme of the day.
It kicked off at 11am and went till 4pm and there was no lack of amusements, activities and entertainment, all of which kept the throngs of happy kids excited and smiling during the entire event. There was just so much to experience, it was hard to decide what to do first.
There were the ever-popular Bouncy Houses; not just one, but several catering to different age groups. Then there were the Princesses, Bonaparte Magic, Touch a Truck, Knuckle Bones and of course there was the Balloon Man; happily making silly hats, pirate swords, animals of every kind and whatever else the kids requested. There was a long line for the balloons and an extra-long line for Face Painting. A Photo Booth was on hand to take pictures of the participants for future memories and the absolutely hilarious Bouncy Horses which took great skill to handle but were oh so much fun for the talented, young bronco busters to ride.
Keeping the park rocking and hopping was live music from ‘Sarah’ and the Toe Jam Puppet Band. And there were educational attractions to entertain the kids as well. There was the Biblio Cycle, a kind of travelling library from the Boston Public Library itself, The Boston Police Department. Boston Fire Department and EMT’s were on hand which also thrilled the kids, as they got to climb in and explore the vehicles. The United States Coast Guard trailered one of their rescue boats onto the park as well. Save the Harbor-Save the Bay was educating kids with hands on lobsters and crabs and there was so much more but the picture is clear – it was an all-around great time held in a safe environment. Who could ask for more?
The South Boston MOMS’ Club, as always did a fantastic job. This is a group that makes promoting a strong sense of community one of their priorities and they do it well. With more than 350 Moms in the local chapter’ it’s an asset to the neighborhood and a wonderful resource for so many. One of their mottos is ‘Moms Offering Moms Support’. ‘We are here to support each other’s efforts to raise our children in this neighborhood. The club enriches the lives of our children while offering support and understanding to moms’. This is a noble goal to be sure.
